ﻳﻘﺮﺃ ﻣﻦ ﺳﻮﺭﺓ ﺍﻷﻋﺮﺍﻑ، ﻭﻗﺪ ﻋﺮﻓﺖ ﺧﻼﻝ ﺍﻟﺤﺪﻳﺚ ﺍﻟﻤﻄﻮّﻝ ﺍﻟﺬﻱ ﺩﺍﺭ ﺑﻴﻨﻨﺎ ﺃﻥ ﺍﻟﺪّﺍﻋﻴﺔ ﺍﻹﻓﺮﻳﻘﻲ
ﺍﻟﻜﺒﻴﺮ ﻻ ﻳﻜﺎﺩ ﻳﻨﻘﻄﻊ ﻋﻦ ﺍﻟﻘﺮﺁﻥ ﺍﻟﻜﺮﻳﻢ ﺇﻣﺎ ﻓﻲ ﺍﻟﻤﺼﺤﻒ ﺃﻭ ﻣﻦ ﺣﻔﻈﻪ .
A journalist reported: Sheikh Ibrahim Niass (RTA)
recieved me in his room at "Shibra" hotel in Makkah, warmly welcoming
me with a smile. As he carries a Makkan printed Qur'an in his hand. He was
wearing a thick medicated pair of glasses. While there were some of his
educated youth behind him, listening to his eloquent recitation of the Qur'an.
He was reciting from Suratul-a'araaf. And through the lengthy conversation that
happened between us, the great prominent African preacher does not usually
cease reading the Holy Qur'an, either in the Book directly or by memory.
ﺍﻟﺼّﺤﻔﻲ : ﺇﻧّﻨﺎ ﻧﺮﺣّﺐ ﺑﻜﻢ ﻓﻲ ﺑﻠﺪ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﺍﻷﻣﻴﻦ ﻣﺄﻭﻯ ﺃﻓﺌﺪﺓ
ﺍﻟﻤﺴﻠﻤﻴﻦ ﻭﻧﺘﻤﻨّﻰ ﻟﻜﻢ ﺇﻗﺎﻣﺔ ﺳﻌﻴﺪﺓ، ﻭﻧﺮﺟﻮ ﻣﻦ ﻓﻀﻴﻠﺘﻜﻢ ﺍﻟﺘّﻜﺮّﻡ ﺑﺎﻹﺟﺎﺑﺔ ﻋﻠﻰ ﺑﻌﺾ ﻣﺎ ﻳﺠﻮﻝ

ﺍﻟﺼّﺤﻔﻲ : ﻗﺒﻞ ﻛﻞ ﺷﻲﺀ ﻧﻮﺩّ ﺃﻥ ﻧﻌﺮﻑ ﻣﺘﻰ ﺑﺪﺃﺗﻢ ﺍﻟﻌﻤﻞ ﻓﻲ
ﻣﻴﺪﺍﻥ ﺍﻟﺪﻋﻮﺓ ﺇﻟﻰ ﺍﻹﺳﻼﻡ ﻭﻛﻴﻒ؟
ﻓﻀﻴﻠﺔ ﺍﻟﺸﻴﺦ : ﻛﺎﻥ ﺫﻟﻚ ﻣﻨﺬ ﺣﻮﺍﻟﻲ ﻧﺼﻒ ﻗﺮﻥ، ﻓﻘﺪ ﺗﻮﻓّﻲ ﻭﺍﻟﺪﻱ

ﺍﻟﺮّﺟﻞ ﺍﻷﻭﺭﺑّﻲ ﺍﻟﺬﻱ ﺑﺪﺃ ﻳﻐﺰﻭ ﺍﻟﺒﻼﺩ ﺑﻌُﻨْﻒ .
Journalist: Before we commence anything, we would
like to know when you started work in the field of Islamic propagation and how?
His Eminence Sheikh: That was about half a
century (50 years) ago, and my father Sheikhul Islam Alhaji Abdulahi Niass died
1340 of hijrah which is 1920 of christian calendar, after he had succeded
immensely -- with the blessing from Allah -- in the course of spreading Islam
in the nook and cranny of Senegal and stretched it throughout different areas
of Senegal as well. He was among the preachers whose roles and duties were to
spread the light of the Qur'an and Sunnah and suppress (bad) innovation of paganism
and warn against the temptation of the European men who had started waging a
voilent war and invading the country.
ﻭﻛﺎﻥ ﺍﻟﻮﺍﻟﺪ ﺭﺣﻤﻪ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﻣﻤﻦ ﺧﺎﺽ ﻣﻌﺎﺭﻙ ﺍﻟﺠﻬﺎﺩ ﺍﻟﻤﺴﻠّﺢ ﺿﺪّ ﺍﻟﻤﺴﺘﻌﻤﺮﻳﻦ ﻭﺿﺪّ
ﺍﻟﻮﺛﻨﻴّﻴﻦ ﺍﻟﻐﺰﺍﺓ ﻓﻲ ﻣﻼﺣﻢ ﻣﺸﻬﻮﺭﺓ ﻓﻲ ﺗﺎﺭﻳﺦ ﺍﻟﺴّﻨِﻐﺎﻝ، ﺛﻢ ﺣﺞّ ﻭﻃﺎﻑ ﺑﺎﻟﺒﻼﺩ ﺍﻹﺳﻼﻣﻴّﺔ
ﻟﻺﺟﺘﻤﺎﻉ ﺑﺎﻟﻌﻠﻤﺎﺀ ﻭﺍﻹﺳﺘﻔﺎﺩﺓ ﺑﺎﻟﺨِﺒْﺮﺍﺕ ﻭﺃﺟﺎﺯﻩ ﻋﻠﻤﺎﺀ ﺍﻷﺯﻫﺮ ﺍﻟﺸﺮﻳﻒ ﻋﺎﻡ 1309 ﻫﺠﺮﻳﺔ
( 1909 ﻡ ) ﻋﻘﺐ ﺯﻳﺎﺭﺗﻪ ﻟﻤﺼﺮ، ﻭﻛﺎﻥ ﻻ ﺑﺪّ ﻣﻦ ﺍﻟﻌﻤﻞ ﺍﻟﺠﺎﺩ ﻭﺍﻟﺠﻬﺎﺩ ﺍﻟﻤﺘﻮﺍﺻﻞ ﻛﻲ ﻻ ﻳﺘﻮﻗّﻒ
ﻫﺬﺍ ﺍﻟﻤﺪّ ﺍﻹﺳﻼﻣﻲ، ﻭﻫﻜﺬﺍ ﻭﺟﺪﺕ ﻧﻔﺴﻲ ﺃﻣﺎﻡ ﺍﻟﻤﺴﺆﻭﻟﻴّﺔ : ﻣﻦ ﻳﻌﻠّﻢ ﻛﺒﺎﺭ ﺍﻟﻄّﻼّﺏ؟ ﻭﻣﻦ ﻳﻔﺘﻲ
ﻓﻲ ﺍﻟﻨّﻮﺍﺯﻝ؟ ﻭﺍﻟﺤﻤﺪ ﻟﻠﻪ ﺍﻟﺬﻱ ﻗﺎﺩ ﺧﻄﺎﻱ ﻭﻭﻓّﻘﻨﻲ ﻟﻠﺨﻴﺮ، ﻓﻠﻮﻻ ﻓﻀﻠﻪ ﺗﻌﺎﻟﻰ ﻣﺎ ﺍﺳْﺘﻄﺎﻉ
ﺃﺣﺪٌ ﺃﻥ ﻳﺘﻐﻠًﺐ ﻋﻠﻰ ﻣﺸﺎﻛﻞ ﺍﻟﺪًﻋﻮﺓ ﺧﺼﻮﺻﺎ ﻓﻲ ﻓﺘﺮﺓ ﺍﻟﺤُﻜﻢ ﺍﻹﺳﺘﻌﻤﺎﺭﻱ ﺍﻟﻤﻈﻠﻢ .
And (my) father may Allah have mercy upon him was
among those who fought the battle of armed jihad against the colonialists and
invading pagans in popular epics or landmarks in the history of Senegal. Then
he performed pilgrimage to Makkah and visited Islamic countries for meetings
with scholars and to benefit from experiences (of others). And the scholars of
Al-Azhar awarded him with certificate in the year 1309 of the hijrah, 1909 of
the christian calendar, following his visit to Egypt. And so it happened that it
was a must to work hard and continue with the effort, in order not to stop this
tide of Islam. So that was how I found myself in front of responsibility: Who
would teach the senior students? And who would issue fatwa? And thank God who
has led my footsteps and helped me to succeed. And if it were not by the
Almighty's virtues, I would not have been able to overcome the challenges of
da'awah especially in the era of the oppressive colonial rule.

Journalist: Your eminence Sheikh can you
summarize your "da'awah" or propagation objectives for us?
ﻓﻀﻴﻠﺔ ﺍﻟﺸﻴﺦ : ﺑﻜﻞّ ﺳﺮﻭﺭ ﺇﻧّﻬﺎ ﺃﻭّﻻ : ﺩﻋﻮﺓ ﻏﻴﺮ ﺍﻟﻤﺴﻠﻤﻴﻦ
ﺑﻜﻞ ﻭﺳﻴﻠﺔ ﻣﻤﻜﻨﺔ ﻟﻴﺪﺧﻠﻮﺍ ﻓﻲ ﺩﻳﻦ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﺗﺎﺭﻛﻴﻦ ﺍﻟﻮﺛﻨﻴّﺔ ﻭﺍﻟﻤﺴﻴﺤﻴﺔ، ﻭﻫﻲ ﺛﺎﻧﻴﺎ :
His Eminence Sheikh: With all pleasure, the first
one is:
1. Inviting non-Muslims with every possible means
to embrace the deen of Allah, by leaving behind paganism and christianity.
And the second is:
ﺍﻟﺠِﺪّ ﻭﺍﻹﺟﺘﻬﺎﺩ ﻓﻲ ﺗﻮﻋﻴّﺔ ﺍﻟﻤﺴﻠﻤﻴﻦ ﻭﻧﺼﺤﻬﻢ ﻭﺇﺭﺷﺎﺩﻫﻢ ﺑﻤﺨﺘﻠﻒ ﺍﻟﻮﺳﺎﺋﻞ ﺣﺘّﻰ
ﻳﺴﺘﻤﺮّ ﺳﻴﺮﻫﻢ ﺇﻟﻰ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﻟﻴﺰﺩﺍﺩﻭﺍ ﺇﻳﻤﺎﻧﺎ ﻣﻊ ﺇﻳﻤﺎﻧﻬﻢ، ﻭﻫﻲ ﺛﺎﻟﺜﺎ :
2. Perseverance and diligence in regards to
creating awareness among Muslims and advising and guiding them via
multi-diverse means until their journey towards Allah continues so as to
increase them in absolute faith.
And the third is:
ﺗﺠﻨﻴﺪ ﻛﻞ ﺍﻟﻄّﺎﻗﺎﺕ ﺍﻟﻤﻤﻜﻨﺔ ﻟﻨﺸﺮ ﻟﻐﺔ ﺍﻟﻘﺮﺁﻥ، ﻭﻫﻲ ﺭﺍﺑﻌﺎ
:
3. Recruiting all possible strength of spreading
the language of the Qur'an (Arabic language).
And the fourth is:
ﺍﻟﺪﻋﻮﺓ ﺇﻟﻰ ﺗﻌﻤﻴﻖ ﺍﻟﺸّﻌﻮﺭ ﺑﺎﻷﺧﻮّﺓ ﺍﻹﺳﻼﻣﻴّﺔ، ﻓﻔﻲ ﻇﻼﻝ ﻫﺬﻩ ﺍﻷﺧﻮّﺓ ﻳﺘﻢ ﻟﻠﻤﺴﻠﻤﻴﻦ
ﺍﻟﺘّﺤﺮّﺭ ﻣﻦ ﻗﻴﻮﺩ ﺍﻟﻨّﺰﻋﺎﺕ ﺍﻹﻗﻠﻴﻤﻴّﺔ ﻭﺍﻟﻌﻨﺼﺮﻳّﺔ ﻭﺍﻟﺴّﻼﻟﻴّﺔ . ﻭﻫﻲ ﺧﺎﻣﺴﺎ :
4. Advocating for a deepening of sentiment or
feeling with the Islamic brotherhood. So in the shade of this brotherhood,
freedom from the constraints of regional, racial and ethnic conflict for
Muslims will be fulfilled.
And the fifth is:
ﺭﺑﻂ ﺍﻟﺪﻋﻮﺓ ﺑﺎﻟﺤﺮﻛﺎﺕ ﻭﺍﻟﻬﻴﺌﺎﺕ ﺍﻹﺳﻼﻣﻴّﺔ ﻓﻲ ﺍﻟﻌﺎﻟﻢ ﻷﻥ ﻫﺬﺍ ﺍﻟﺘﻌﺎﻭﻥ ﻣﻦ ﻣﻘﺘﻀﻴﺎﺕ
ﺍﻷﺧﻮّﺓ ﺍﻹﺳﻼﻣﻴﺔ . ﻭﻫﻲ ﺳﺎﺩﺳﺎ :
5. Connecting the advocacy with movements and
Islamic organizations in the world. Because this cooperation is a very
imperative requirements of Islamic brotherhood.
And the sixth one is:
ﺍﻟﺘّﺼﺪّﻱ ﻟﻠﻘﻮﻯ ﺍﻟﺘﻲ ﺗﺴﻌﻰ ﻟﻔﺘﻨﺔ ﺍﻟﻤﺴﻠﻤﻴﻦ ﻣﻦ ﺗﺒﺸﻴﺮﻳﺔ ﻣﺴﻴﺤﻴﺔ ﻭﻣﻦ ﺻﻬﻴﻮﻧﻴّﺔ
ﻣﺘﺴﺘّﺮﺓ ﻭﻏﻴﺮﻫﺎ .
6. Addressing the forces that seek to instigate the
temptation of Muslims from Christian missionaries and from the disguised Zionists
and others.
ﻫﺬﺍ ﻭﺍﻟﻤﻬﺘﻤّﻮﻥ ﺑﻘﻀﺎﻳﺎ ﺍﻹﺳﻼﻡ ﻓﻲ ﺑﻼﺩﻧﺎ ﻳﻌﺮﻓﻮﻥ ﺍﻟﻜﻔﺎﺡ ﺍﻹﺻﻼﺣﻲ
ﻟﺠﻤﺎﻋﺘﻨﺎ ﺍﻟﻤﺴﻠﻤﺔ ﻓﻲ ﺷﺘّﻰ ﺍﻟﻤﺠﺎﻻﺕ ﻭﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﺍﻟﻤﻮﻓّﻖ .
These and those interested in the Islamic issuess
in our country know the reformist struggle of our Muslim communities in
different domains. To Allah belong succeess.

His Eminence Sheikh: Reliance upon Allah and
absolute trust in the true Almighty, coupled with exerting much effort to
fulfill (my) duty.

ﺃﻋﺠﺐ ﺑﻜﻞ ﻣﺴﻠﻢ ﻋﻠﻰ ﻗﺪﺭ ﺣﻈّﻪ ﻣﻦ ﻣﻴﺮﺍﺙ ﺍﻟﻨّﺒﻮّﺓ ﻋﻠﻮﻣﺎ ﻭﺃﺧﻼﻗﺎ .
Journalist: And who else after him peace and
blessings of Allah be upon him?
His Eminence Sheikh: His rightly guided
companions may Allah be pleased with them. Besides, I am also amazed by every
Muslim based his his level of (manifestation) of the legacy of the
prophet in intellectual and moral terms.
ﺍﻟﺼّﺤﻔﻲ : ﻫﻞ ﻓﻲ ﺟﻤﻬﻮﺭﻳﺔ ﺍﻟﺴًﻨِﻐﺎﻝ ﻣﺴﺎﺟﺪ ﻭﺟﻮﺍﻣﻊ ﻻﺋﻘﺔ؟

Journalist: Do you have mosques in Senegal and
related central mosques (for Jum'ah prayers)?
His Eminnence Sheikh: Of course, in Senegal there
are many mosques and central mosques, all of them (obtained) by virtue of the
commitment of Muslims as a people, except the biggest central mosque in Dakar,
which the government has contributed generously in building it. There are three
of the largest international central mosques in Senegal, one of them is my
large central mosque whose expansion project is underway to be able to
accomodate 12000 worshippers, and his Royal Highness King Faisal (of Saudi Arabia)
has contributed half a million riyals (in the project). May Allah reward him!

thought do you belong to? And from where do draw your Islamic knowledge?

reformational and educational struggle.
ﻓﻀﻴﻠﺔ ﺍﻟﺸﻴﺦ : ﺃﻧﺎ ﻋﻠﻰ ﻣﺬﻫﺐ ﺇﻣﺎﻡ ﺩﺍﺭ ﺍﻟﻬﺠﺮﺓ ﻣﺎﻟﻚ ﺑﻦ ﺃﻧﺲ
ﺭﺿﻲ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﻋﻨﻪ ﻭﻋﻠﻰ ﻋﻘﻴﺪﺓ ﺃﻫﻞ ﺍﻟﺴّﻨّﺔ ﻭﺍﻟﺠﻤﺎﻋﺔ، ﻭﺍﻟﻤﺴﻠﻤﻮﻥ ﻓﻲ ﺍﻟﺴّﻨِﻐﺎﻝ ﻭﻓﻲ ﻏﺮﺏ ﺇﻓﺮﻳﻘﻴﺎ

His Eminence Sheikh: I am on the school of
thought (madh-hab) of Imamul Darul Hijrah Malik bun Anas, may Allah be pleased
with him. And upon the aqidah (creed) of Ahlul Sunnah Wal-Jama'ah and the
Muslims in Senegal and west Africa are sunnis and malikis, gratitude be to Allah.
ﻭﻣﺼﺪﺭﻧﺎ ﻭﻣﺮﺟﻌﻨﺎ ﻭﺭﻛﻴﺰﺗﻨﺎ ﺍﻹﺳﻼﻣﻴﺔ ﺍﻟﻘﺮﺁﻥ ﺍﻟﻜﺮﻳﻢ ﺍﻟﻤﻮﺟﻮﺩ ﺑﻴﻦ ﺩﻓﺘﻲ ﻫﺬﺍ ﺍﻟﻜﺘﺎﺏ
ﺍﻟﺬﻱ ﺃﻣﺴﻚ ﺑﻪ ﺍﻵﻥ، ﻭﺣﺪﻳﺚ ﺭﺳﻮﻝ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﺻﻠﻰ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﻋﻠﻴﻪ ﻭﺳﻠﻢ ﺛﻢ ﻣﺎ ﺍﺟﺘﻤﻌﺖ ﻋﻠﻴﻪ ﺍﻷﻣّﺔ ﻭﺍﻟﻘﻴﺎﺱ
ﺍﻟﺴّﻠﻴﻢ ﻛﻤﺎ ﻫﻮ ﻣﻘﺮّﺭ ﻋﻨﺪ ﻋﻠﻤﺎﺀ ﺃﻫﻞ ﺍﻟﺴّﻨّﺔ ﺑﺎﻟﺸّﺮﻭﻁ ﻭﺍﻟﻀّﻮﺍﺑﻂ ﺍﻟﻤﻌﺮﻭﻓﺔ .
And our Islamic source, reference and focus is
the Holy Qur'an which I am holding now. And the hadith of the Prophet (PBUH).
Then what the Ummah have had a compromising position on and sound analogy as it
is the decision with the scholars of Ahlul Sunnah with known conditions and
controls.
ﺍﻟﺼّﺤﻔﻲ : ﺃﻧﺘﻢ ﺇﺫﺍ ﻣﺎﻟﻜﻴّﻮﻥ ﻭﻣﻦ ﺃﻫﻞ ﺍﻟﺴّﻨّﺔ ﻓﻬﻨﻴﺌﺎ ﻟﻜﻢ
ﺍﻟﺘﻮﻓﻴﻖ ﻣﻦ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ، ﻭﻟﻜﻦ ﻣﺎ ﻫﻲ ﺍﻟﻜﺘﺐ ﺍﻟﺘﻲ ﺗﻘﺮّﺭﻭﻧﻬﺎ ﻋﻠﻰ ﻃﻼّﺏ ﺍﻟﻌﻠﻢ ﻛﻲ ﻳﺘﻔﻘّﻬﻮﺍ ﻓﻲ ﺍﻟﺪّﻳﻦ؟
Journalist: You are followers of maliki school of
thought and among the Ahlul Sunnah so congratulations and wishing you success
from Allah. But what are the books that you use for students of knowledge in
order to understand the religion?
ﻓﻀﻴﻠﺔ ﺍﻟﺸﻴﺦ : ﺃﻣﺎ ﻓﻲ ﺍﻟﻔﻘﻪ ﻓﺈﻥ ﺍﻟﻤﺎﻟﻜﻴّﺔ ﻫﻲ ﻣﺤﻞّ ﺍﻟﻌﻨﺎﻳﺔ
ﻗﺒﻞ ﻏﻴﺮﻫﺎ ﻓﺎﻟﺘّﻠﻤﻴﺬ ﺑﻌﺪ ﺣﻔﻈﻪ ﺍﻟﻘﺮﺁﻥ ﺃﻭ ﺣﻔﻆ ﺃﺟﺰﺍﺀ ﻣﻨﻪ ﻳﺒﺪﺃ ﺑﺪﺭﺍﺳﺔ ﺑﻌﺾ ﺍﻟﻤﺨﺘﺼﺮﺍﺕ ﺍﻟﻤﺸﻬﻮﺭﺓ
ﻋﻨﺪﻧﺎ ﻛﻤﺨﺘﺼﺮ ﺍﻷﺧﻀﺮﻱ ﻓﻲ ﺍﻟﻔﻘﻪ ﻭﻣﻨﻈﻮﻣﺔ ﺍﺑﻦ ﻋﺎﺷﺮ ﺛﻢ ﺭﺳﺎﻟﺔ ﺍﺑﻦ ﺃﺑﻲ ﺯﻳﺪ ﺍﻟﻘﻴﺮﻭﺍﻧﻲ، ﻭﻓﻲ
ﻫﺬﺍ ﺍﻟﻜﺘﺎﺏ ﻭﻫﻮ ﻣﻮﺟﻮﺩ ﻫﻨﺎ ﻓﻲ ﺍﻟﻜﺘﺐ( ﻳﻌﻨﻲ ﺍﺑﻦ ﻋﺎﺷﺮ ﻭﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﺃﻋﻠﻢ ) ﺑﺎﺏ ﺧﺎﺹ ﺑﺎﻟﻌﻘﻴﺪﺓ
ﻣﻦ ﺍﻟﺴّﻬﻞ ﻋﻠﻰ ﺍﻟﻘﺮّﺍﺀ ﻣﺮﺍﺟﻌﺘﻪ، ﻭﻟﻬﺬﻩ ﺍﻟﻜﺘﺐ ﺷﺮﻭﺡ ﻛﺜﻴﺮﺓ ﻭﻧُﺪﺭّﺱ ﺑﻌﻨﺎﻳﺔ ﻛﺘﺎﺏ ﻣﻮﻃﺄ ﺍﻹﻣﺎﻡ
ﻣﺎﻟﻚ ﺑﻤﺨﺘﻠﻒ ﺍﻟﺸّﺮﻭﺡ ﻭﻫﻜﺬﺍ ﺩﻭﺍﻟﻴﻚ .
His Eminence Sheikh: As for the field of fiqh,
then malikiyah school of thought is what our focus is before others. So after a
student memorizes the Qur'an or memorizes part of it, he would begin by
studying some popular abridged versions (of books) such as "Mukhtasarul
Ahdarii" or abridged book of ahdarii in fiqh and "Manzoomah Ibn
'Aashir" then "Risalah Ibn Abi Zaid Al-Qairawani". And in this
book which is available here (means Ibn 'Aashir Allah knows best) there is a
special chapter on "aqidah" or "doctrine", which is easy
for readers to review it. And these books have so much analysis (of the textual
contents) and we carefully study or teach the book of "Muwattah Imamu
Malik", with different versions or various explanations and so forth.
ﻭﻓﻲ ﺍﻟﺘّﻔﺴﻴﺮ ﻧﻘﺮّﺭ ﻋﻠﻰ ﺍﻟﻄّﻠﺒﺔ ﺗﻔﺴﻴﺮ ﺍﻟﺠﻼﻟﻴﻦ ﺃﻭّﻻ ﻭﻧﺪﺭّﺱ ﺍﻟﺼّﺤﺎﺡ ﺍﻟﺴّﻨّﺔ،
ﻭﺃﻧﺎ ﺷﺨﺼﻴّﺎ ﻣﺎ ﺯﻟﺖ ﺃُﻟﻘﻲ ﺩﺭﺳﺎ ﻓﻲ ﺻﺤﻴﺢ ﺍﻟﺒﺨﺎﺭﻱ ﻭﻛﻞ ﻳﻮﻡ ﻓﻲ ﺍﻟﻤﺴﺠﺪ ﺍﻟﺠﺎﻣﻊ . ﺇﻥ ﻣﺼﺪﺭﻧﺎ
ﻫﺬﻩ ﻫﻲ ﺍﻟﻤﺼﺎﺩﺭ ﺍﻟﻤﻌﺘﻤﺪﺓ ﺍﻟﻤﻘﺒﻮﻟﺔ ﻟﺪﻯ ﻋﻠﻤﺎﺀ ﺍﻷﻣﺼﺎﺭ ﻓﻲ ﺳﺎﺋﺮ ﺍﻷﻋﺼﺎﺭ، ﻭﻧﻌﺘﻘﺪ ﻣﻊ ﺍﻹﻣﺎﻡ
ﻣﺎﻟﻚ ﺃﻥ ﻛﻞ ﻛﻼﻡ ﻳﺆﺧﺬ ﻣﻨﻪ ﻭﻳﺘﺮﻙ ﺇﻻ ﻛﻼﻡ ﺍﻟﻤﺼﻄﻔﻰ ﺻﻠﻰ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﻋﻠﻴﻪ ﻭﺳﻠﻢ .
And in the field of "Tafsir" or
"Exegesis", we use "Tafsirul Jalalain" for students first,
then we teach "Suhhahul Sunnah" or "Authenticated Ahadith".
And me personally, I still lecture or give lessons in "Sahihul
Bukhari" or "Authentic Book of Al-Bukhari" and everyday in the
central mosque. So in fact these our source are the most reliable and
acceptable sources of reference for generations. And we think or believe with
Imamu Malik that in every idea or statement, we pick some and leave some except
the words or statement of Al-Mustapha, the chosen Prophet (PBUH).
ﺍﻟﺼّﺤﻔﻲ : ﺫﻛﺮﺗﻢ ﺁﻧﻔﺎ ﺃﻥ ﺍﻟﺘﻠﻤﻴﺬ ﻳﺤﻔﻆ ﺍﻟﻘﺮﺁﻥ ﻛﻼًّ ﺃﻭ ﺑﻌﻀﺎ
ﻓﻨﺤﺐ ﺃﻥ ﻧﻌﺮﻑ ﺑﻬﺬﻩ ﺍﻟﻤﻨﺎﺳﺒﺔ ﻣﺪﻯ ﺍﻟﻌﻨﺎﻳﺔ ﺑﺎﻟﻘﺮﺁﻥ ﻋﻨﺪﻛﻢ؟
Journalist: You have mention earlier that the
student would memorize full or part of the Qur'an, so on this occassion we want
to know how you regard the Qur'an?
ﻓﻀﻴﻠﺔ ﺍﻟﺸﻴﺦ : ﺃﻭّﻻ ﺃﺫﻛﺮ ﺗﺤﺪّﺛﺎ ﺑﻨﻌﻤﺔ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﺃﻧّﻨﻲ ﺣﻔﻈﺖ
ﻛﺘﺎﺏ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﻭﺃﻧﺎ ﺻﻐﻴﺮ ﺍﻟﺴّﻦّ ﻭﻟﻢ ﺃﺯﺍﻝ ﺃﺣﻔﻈﻪ ﺣﺘّﻰ ﺍﻵﻥ، ﻭﺃﺧﺘﻤﻪ ﻓﻲ ﻛﻞ ﺃﺳﺒﻮﻉ ﻣﺮّﺗﻴﻦ ﻷﻧّﻲ
ﺃﻗﺮﺃ ﺳُﺒُﻌﺎ ﻓﻲ ﺍﻟﻤﺼﺤﻒ. ﺛﻢ ﺃﻋﻴﺪ ﺍﻟﻘﺮﺍﺀﺓ ﻓﻲ
ﺍﻟﻠﻴﻞ ﻭﻟﻜﻦ ﻫﺬﻩ ﻣﻦ ﺣﻔﻈﻲ ﺃَﺑْﺪﺃُ ﻳﻮﻡ ﺍﻟﺴّﺒﺖ ﻭﺃﻧﺘﻬﻲ ﻳﻮﻡ ﺍﻟﺠﻤﻌﺔ، ﻭﻣُﺴْﻠﻤﻮ ﺑﻼﺩﻧﺎ ﻣﻌﺮﻭﻓﻮﻥ
ﺑﺤﺮﺻﻬﻢ ﻋﻠﻰ ﺣﻔﻆ ﺍﻟﻘﺮﺁﻥ ﺍﻟﻜﺮﻳﻢ ﻣﻨﺬ ﻗﺪﻳﻢ ﺍﻟﺰﻣﺎﻥ، ﻭﺍﻟﻤُﺪْﻫﺶ ﺃﻥ ﺟﻞّ ﻫﺆﻻﺀ ﺍﻟﺤﻔﻈﺔ ﻋﻨﺪﻧﺎ
ﻻ ﻳﻔﻬﻤﻮﻥ ﻣﻌﺎﻧﻲ ﺍﻟﻘﺮﺁﻥ ﺇﻻ ﻗﻠﻴﻼ ﺧﺼﻮﺻﺎ ﻓﻲ ﺍﻟﺠﻴﻞ ﺍﻟﻤﺎﺿﻲ، ﻭﻣﻦ ﻧﻌﻢ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﺃﻥ ﺍﻷﻏﻠﺒﻴﺔ ﻣﻦ
ﺃﻭﻻﺩﻱ ﺫﻛﻮﺭﺍ ﻭﺇﻧﺎﺛﺎ ﺣﻔﻈﻮﺍ ﺍﻟﻘﺮﺁﻥ ﺍﻟﻜﺮﻳﻢ.
His Eminence Sheikh: In the first place I will
state as by the grace of Allah that, I have memorized the book of Allah while I
was at a very young age. And I do still review my memorization always. I read
it completely twice every week in the Book. I would then repeat the recitation
at night. But in regards to my memorization I commence on Saturday and finish on
Friday. And the Muslims in our country are known for their attention and desire
to memorize the Qur'an since medieval or ancient times. And amazingly, most of
these "huffaz" with us do not understand the meaning of the Qur'an,
but only few of them especially in the past generation. And as part of the
blessings of Allah most of my children both males and females have memorized
the Holy Qur'an.
ﻭﻗﺪ ﻧﺼﺒﺖ ﻓﻲ ﺍﻟﻤﺮﻛﺰ ﻋﻨﺪﻱ ﻭﻓﻲ ﻋﺪﺓ ﻧﻮﺍﺡ ﻣﺪﺍﺭﺱ ﻟﺘﺤﻔﻴﻆ ﺍﻟﻘﺮﺁﻥ
ﻳﺪﺭّﺳﻬﺎ ﺃﺳﺎﺗﺬﺓ ﺳِﻨِﻐَﺎﻟﻴّﻮﻥ ﻭﻣُﻮﺭِﻳﺘَﺎﻧِﻴّﻮﻥ، ﻭﻗﺪ ﺗﻌﻮّﺩﻧﺎ ﻓﻲ ﻛﻞ ﻋﺎﻡ ﺃﻥ ﻧﻮﺟّﻪ ﻧﺪﺍﺀً
ﺇﻟﻰ ﺍﻟﻘﺮّﺍﺀ ﻟﻺﺟﺘﻤﺎﻉ ﻓﻲ ﺍﻟﺠﺎﻣﻊ ﺍﻟﻜﺒﻴﺮ ﺑﻤﺪﻳﻨﺔ ﻛﻮﻟﺦ ﻟﺘﻼﻭﺓ ﺍﻟﻘﺮﺁﻥ ﺗﻌﺒّﺪﺍ ﻭﺗﺒﺮّﻛﺎ ﻓﻨﺨﺘﻢ
ﺧﻼﻝ ﺛﻼﺙ ﻟﻴﺎﻝ ﻭﺃﺭﺑﻌﺔ ﺃﻳﺎﻡ ﺣﻮﺍﻟﻲ ﺃﻟﻔﻲ ﺧﺘﻤﺔ ﻭﻳﺴﺘﻤﻌﻮﻥ ﻓﻲ ﺍﻟﻨﻬﺎﻳﺔ ﺇﻟﻰ ﻣﺤﺎﺿﺮﺓ ﻋﻦ ﺍﻟﻘﺮﺁﻥ،
ﻫﺬﺍ ﻋﻦ ﺍﻟﺘﻼﻭﺓ، ﻭﺃﻣﺎ ﻋﻨﺎﻳﺘﻨﺎ ﺑﺎﻟﻘﺮﺁﻥ ﺩﺭﺍﺳﺔ ﻭﺑﺤﺜﺎ ﻭﺗﺄﻣّﻼ ﻓﻘﺪ ﺃﻭﻣﺄﺕ ﺇﻟﻰ ﺫﻟﻚ ﺁﻧﻔﺎ.
I have established at my (educational) center numerous
kinds of Qu'ran memorization schools being taught by Senegalese and Muritanian
teachers. I also used to invite reciters every year to gather at the big
central mosque in Madinatu Kaolack for recitation of the Qur'an as a symbol of
worship and seeking blessing. We would complete recitation of the entire Qur'an
about 2000 times within three nights and four days. And at the end they would
listen to a lecture about the (significance of) Qur'an. This is in regards to
recitation (of the Qur'an). However, talking about our safe guarding or caring
for the Qur'an in terms of learning, researching and meditating, I have
indicated that earlier.
ﺛﻢ ﺇﻥ ﺩﺭﻭﺱ ﺍﻟﺘﻔﺴﻴﺮ ﺑﺎﻟﻠﻐﺎﺕ ﺍﻟﻘﻮﻣﻴّﺔ ﻻ ﺗﻨﻘﻄﻊ ﺇﻻ ﻟﺘﺴﺘﺄﻧﻒ
ﻣﻦ ﺟﺪﻳﺪ ﻷﻥ ﺍﻟﻘﺮﺁﻥ ﻫﻮ ﻋﻴﻦ ﺍﻟﻤﻌﺎﺭﻑ ﻭﻳﻨﺒﻮﻉ ﺍﻟﺤِﻜْﻤﺔ ﻭﻫﻮ ﺍﻟﻌﺎﺻﻢ ﻣﻦ ﺍﻟﻘﻮﺍﺻﻢ ﻭﻫﻮ ﺣﺒﻞ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ
ﺍﻟﻤﺘﻴﻦ، ﻓﺈﺫﺍ ﺃﺷﺮﻗﺖ ﺷﻤﺴﻪ ﻓﻲ ﻗﻮﻡ ﺗﻄﻬّﺮﻭﺍ ﻭﺗﺰﻛّﻮﺍ ﻭﺻُﻔِﺪﺕ ﻋﻨﻬﻢ ﺍﻟﺸّﻴﺎﻃﻴﻦ، ﻭﻗﺪ ﻗﻠﺖ ﺗﺤﺪﺛﺎ
ﺑﻨﻌﻤﺔ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ :
ﻭﺃﺷـﻜﺮ ﺭﺑّﻲ ﺃﻟﻬـﻢ ﺍﻟﻌﺒـﺪ ﺭﺷـﺪﻩ
ﻓﺄﺻﻐﺮ ﺃﺗﺒﺎﻋﻲ ﺑﺮﻳﺊ ﻣﻦ ﺍﻟﺸّﺮﻙ
Then also (Quranic) "tafsir" or
exegesis in the native languages. It would not cease unless to be resumed anew,
because it is the real (focal point of) knowledge, the fountain of wisdom, the
epicenter of all horizon and it is the most durable robe of Allah. So when its
sun shines within a people, it purifies and cleanses them and the devils are
tied up or winked away from them. And I have said expressing my gratitude for
the blessing Allah bestowed upon me (in one of my poetic stanzas):
And
I do express gratitude to my Lord who has inspired his servant (me) with his
guidance
As
even the youngest among my followers are very free or innocent from
"shirk" or polytheism
