A LETTER OF SHEIKH IBRAHIM NIASS TO AN ARABIC MAGAZINE ON THE OCCASION OFTHE  WORLD ARABIC LANGUAGE DAY IN 1969.....!!!

بمناسبة الْيَوْم العالمي للغة العربية، يقول: الشيخ إبراهيم نياس في إحدى رسائله

On the Occasion of the World Arabic Language Day, Sheikh Ibrahim Niass wrote in one of his epistles: 

.....وأنا أرى بكل صراحة أن اللغة العربية على عظمتها ورغم خصائصها التي لا تنكر، ما كانت لتخرج من جزيرتها لولا هذا الحدث الضخم الذي تمّ بفضل الله منذ أربعة عشر قرنا.. وهو نزول القرآن الكريم بلسان عربي مبين، ذلك الكتاب العزيز الذي سارتْ العربية في موْكبه حيثُما اتّجه فأصبحتْ بسببه لغة عالمية يُعنى بها ويقدسها جميع المسلمين في المشارق والمغارب.

.....And frankly speaking, I think the greatness and exclusivity of the Arabic language which is undeniable, it would not have emerged out of its root (Saudi Arabia), had it not been the significance event which had occurred with the divine virtue of Allah since fourteen centuries ago...which is the revelation of the holy Qur'an with the clear and concise Arabic tongue...That noble book which Arabic became its conveyor wherever it would head towards. Hence it became a global language which is being revered by Muslims from the western and eastern (parts of the world). 

وأذكر أني قد قمت سنة 1963 برحلة من سنغال بغرب إفريقيا إلى الصين بأقصى الشرق، فما حللت ببلد إلا وجدت فيه من يكلمني بعربية فصيحةٍ بليغةٍ ويُحييني بتحية الإسلام.

And I remember in 1963 I embarked on a trip from Senegal in west Africa to China in the far east, I would never make a stopover in a country without finding a person speaking eloquent and fluent Arabic to me and great me with the Islamic greetings.

لاجرم أنه لولا هذا القرآن الكريم لبقيت العربية لغة إقليميةً محصورةً، وإذا كُتب لأدبها أن ينمو ويتطور فسوف يكون على مستوى أدب جارتها الفارسية... فاللغة الفارسية لغة أدب وفنًّ وفلسفة منذ قديم، ولكنها ظلّت لغة إقليمية قلّ من يعرفها من غير أبنائها.

Inarguably, had it not been this Qur'an, the Arabic language would have remained a regionally limited and confined language. So when it is written for it's literary sense for it to grow and develop, it would still remain on the literary level of its neighbor the Persian language (Farisi)...For the Persian language is a language of literature, art and philosophy for a long time. It however remains a regional language, where only few know it apart from it's own people.

وأما لغة الضاد فقد انطلقت من أسْر الاقليمية كما قلت، منذ أن جعلها الله جلّتْ قدرته لغة التنزيل ولسان الوحي وأساس الإسلام وترجمان عباداته ورباط الروح. فهي- والحال هذه - لغة تستمدُّ شرفها وتستقي روافدها أساسا من الإسلام ولا تضمن لنفسها بقاء ولا خلودا إلا بهذا الإسلام. وهذه حقيقة لا تحتاج إلى برهان اللهم إلا إذا احتاج النهار إلى دليل.

However, as for the "duad" (Arabic) language, it has moved from being a regional language as I said, since Allah Almighty made it the language of the revelation, the tongue of revelation, the origin of Islam and the interpreter of his servants and the bond of the spirit. It is a language which draws its honor and tributaries away from Islam. And it has no guarantee of its own existence forever except with this (religion of) Islam. And this is a reality that doesn't need any evidence, unless the sun needs any proof (to establish its reality of appearance).
